µsurf explorer - a standard for the testing laboratory
The optical 3D measurement system µsurf explorer is a compact package for the measurement and analysis of surfaces – a high precision surface analysis system at an attractive price. The µsurf explorer is suitable for metrology and test laboratories as well as for use in production environments.
The flexible and user-friendly measurement solution is successfully used in numerous companies and industries. All topography measurements are non-contacting, fast and uncomplicated with just a few function steps.

µsurf mobile – Quick deployment portable system
Sometimes parts that require surface topography or micro-geometry measurements are just too large to bring into the laboratory. Other times high resolution measurements need to be made expeditiously in the field or on the shop floor.
The NanoFocus µsurf mobile brings laboratory surface metrology performance to the location of your choice. The battery operated electronics and tough roll around container allow operation in remote locations without the need for external power sources. Lightweight and easy to operate, the µsurf mobile is ready to measure in about a minute. Measurement times are even faster – generally 5 to 10 seconds.
The µsurf mobile system is based on tried and true µsurf confocal technology. Acquisition and analysis of data is easily handled by the powerful µsoft line of software products.

HIP IMPLANT
In the final machining of hip implants, the polishing process determines the quality of the ultra-smooth surfaces. Polishing for too long exposes hard particles from the material that could later lead to infections and rejections. These particles are captured and quantified by measuring with µsurf. Examination of surface roughness down to the nanometer range ensures that the implants are always of a consistent quality.
DENTAL IMPLANT
Dental implants are roughened by sand blasting and by a subsequent etching process. Roughening means the titanium implant heals into the jaw faster and more durably. The ongoing measurement of the 3D surface roughness during the production process guarantees the manufacturer adherence with the roughness tolerances defined in clinical studies. In the past only qualitative assessment using SEM was available.
STENT
Modern vascular implants (stents) are coated with a bioactive layer to prevent regrowth (restinosis). µsurf custom determines both the layer thickness and its homogeneity and the roughness of the surface at the same time. With the µsurf custom, the accuracy of measurements of this type is in the nanometer range. Transparent layers can be captured from 1 µm upwards.
